The Beginnings
Founded in 2017, JRD Motorsports took a unique route to becoming a race team. Brothers Jamie and Ryan Dyson, introduced to racing by their father, grew up surrounded by the sport. Their parents, Chris and Wendy, even had their first date at Delaware Speedway. As kids, the Dysons were devoted Jeff Gordon fans, traveling to Homestead for his final race.
Ryan immersed himself in the local racing scene, landing a job at Delaware Speedway where he took on every role—writing race recaps, managing social media, announcing, and learning how cars and teams operate. His passion for racing deepened, sparking Jamie’s involvement as well.
The brothers soon became fixtures at Delaware and Ontario’s major tracks. Their dedication led to a contract with the United Racing Series, where they handled social media, driver interviews, and race official duties, quickly earning a reputation for professionalism and enthusiasm.
The Need For Speed
In 2017, Jamie and Ryan Dyson founded JRD Motorsports, transitioning from virtual racing to real cars despite having no auto mechanic experience. Their inaugural season featured a home-built Bone Stock, with Ryan racing under the #28 in tribute to Steve Robblee.
They traveled across Ontario, competing at tracks like Grand Bend, Flamboro, Sauble, and Delaware Speedway, with both brothers sharing driving duties. While balancing their work with the United Racing Series, mechanical issues early in the season led Jamie to focus on the pit crew. Ryan finished the season strong, earning top-10 finishes in the last three races, including the Pumpkin Smasher.
In 2019, JRD Motorsports moved up to the truck series, rebuilding a wrecked chassis with help from Manning Racing. After a tough start, the team claimed its first heat race win and runner-up finish. On August 9th, they won their first feature race, dominating a combined Trucks and V8 Stock Series field. Ryan also finished the season with the most points and wins among Rookie drivers at Delaware Speedway.

Continuing Through the Ranks
In 2020, after rebuilding their truck again, JRD Motorsports pivoted due to the pandemic and purchased a new Super Stock. With a shortened season and tracks opening late, the team joined a three-race mini-series, despite having no prior laps in the car.
Their Super Stock debut at Sauble Speedway ended early due to an electrical failure, but at Sunset Speedway, they finished 16th in a strong field. At Jukasa Motor Speedway, in just their third Super Stock race, Ryan qualified 6th and finished an impressive 2nd, a remarkable feat given the competition and unfamiliar track.
Ryan's performance garnered attention, earning him a spot as a top driver to watch in 2021. That year, he won a race, claimed Rookie of the Year at Delaware Speedway, and finished 3rd in points, while placing 8th in the Qwick Wick Super Stock Touring Series despite two mechanical failures.
For 2024, JRD Motorsports built their first brand-new race car, a WMI Super Stock, and earned multiple wins.
In 2024, Ryan made his highly anticipated NASCAR Canada Series debut at the Delaware 200, driving the Wight Motorsports Inc. #19 at his home track, Delaware Speedway. This moment was the culmination of years of hard work and a dream come true, marking his entry into the pinnacle of stock car racing. Despite a mechanical failure in the race's second half, Ryan had already driven into the top 10 and was on track for an impressive debut finish before being forced to DNF early.
